Shipping Supervisor

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of Shipping Supervisor at our headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.

This position assists the Distribution Manger (DM) over the shipping Value Stream in the overall supervision of shipping operations within the department. Ensures timely delivery of quality products in a safe work environment. Provides leadership to employees. Oversees the performance of warehouse laborers and could include the shipping office. This role will also perform basic transportation functions and may involve rate negotiations, carrier set up and communication with carrier account representatives or carrier personnel regarding transportation issues or changes that need to be made. The Shipping Supervisor reports directly to the Distribution Manager. Reporting directly to this position are the Cell Leaders, Assistant Cell Leaders, dock & Shipping office personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Oversee the shipment or receipt of outgoing or incoming materials, parts, or products.
• Verify shipment documents, determining shipping priorities, assigning tasks to team members, developing shipping procedures, determining storage space requirements, supervising loading, and unloading operations.
• Promotes safety and ensures compliance with plant policies, OSHA regulations and any other governmental safety regulations. Recommends and encourages activities in the department which will reduce injuries and illnesses. Fills out accident reports when necessary and follows up on corrective action.
• Responsible for packing material with team members, create shipping paperwork, along with BOL's.
• Issue shipping instructions and provide routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated
• Schedule or monitor air or surface pickup, delivery, or distribution of products or materials.
• Confer with department heads to coordinate warehouse activities, such as production, sales, customer service, or purchasing
• Assists the DM/VS Management in cost reduction by recommending changes and trying out new suggestions.
• Recommends changes to reduce the waste of critical resources, such as people, time, money and materials.
• Supervise the activities of workers engaged in receiving, storing, and shipping products or materials
• Interview, select, and train warehouse and shipping/receiving personnel
• Inspect physical conditions of warehouses, vehicles, or equipment and order testing, maintenance, repairs, or replacements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Two-year college degree is preferred.
• Must possess strong supervisory skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both employees and management.
• Hands-on skill and detailed knowledge of lean principles is required.
• This person must be receptive to continuing education and training in the areas of supervision, safety, manufacturing technology, scheduling, quality, transportation functions and further lean principles.
