Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of Senior Blade Manufacturing Engineer at our Global Headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.

The Sr. Blade Manufacturing Engineer has joint responsibilities fulfilling duties typically associated with a traditional manufacturing engineering role while cooperatively providing day to day manufacturing operations technical support. Additionally, these individuals will work in the area of operations development, identify new equipment requirements, develop process specifications, work with capital equipment suppliers and integrators, acquire new equipment & systems, and execute acceptance run-offs and validations. This position provides technical manufacturing support in the area of the design, acquisition and troubleshooting of automation equipment, standard manufacturing equipment and processes to meet our quality requirements for new & existing products. The Associate Design Engineer and Engineering Tech report to this position. This position reports directly to the Engineering Lead - Blades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Stays abreast of technological advances regarding automation and works to meet multiple goals and deadlines of projects.
  • Ensures manufacturing meets production goals while troubleshooting mechanical/operational problems, electrical control programs, and making process adjustments.
  • Works within the parameters of the approval process for expenditures
  • Responsible for high level blade projects/process work, and the design/procurement of automation equipment. Works with vendors/suppliers in the design/development and redesign of automation equipment to ensure manufacturing requirements are met, improve quality, improve productivity, and decrease manufacturing process costs. Develops purchase orders for capital projects.
  • Troubleshoots electronic controls on automated equipment, programs electronic controllers and makes process adjustments. Supports Process Improvement Technicians on high-level maintenance activities. Writes proprietary and non-proprietary company equipment standards and updates the standards as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and electronic devices/equipment, in the design/redesign and procurement of automation equipment and in writing company equipment standards. Keeps supervisor informed of status of projects, equipment problems and for purchase order approvals beyond this position's purchasing limit.
  • Communicates internally with other employees in Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance and Quality Control. External contacts are equipment manufacturers, vendors, and outside contractors.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Designs/redesigns and procures blade process and automation equipment.
  • Develops/Implements process improvements involving human interaction, equipment capabilities, and process flow.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical and electronic equipment and devices.
  • Provides technical support to Process Improvement Technicians and Maintenance personnel.
  • Writes and updates company equipment standards.
  • Works to improve productivity, quality and decrease costs of manufacturing process.
  • Works with confidential information in regard to manufacturing engineering/projects and patents.
  • Develops purchase orders for critical equipment replacement & spare parts.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering support for new product launch activities.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering support for capital acquisition projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field of study required
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in manufacturing engineering field
  • Must have or actively pursue CAD ability
  • Must be willing to study manuals and literature on equipment and be willing to attend classes/training on related subjects.
  • Must have proficient math skills, good attendance, ability to work in a team environment and the ability to follow established work rules and safety procedures.
  • Must be willing to successfully complete required training as needed.
