Project Engineer

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of PFG (Purchased Finished Goods) Project Engineer at our headquarters in Sterling, Illinois

The PFG Project Engineer is responsible for technical support and qualification of new purchased finished personal care products ranging from massagers, hair dryers, curling irons, pet care products, shavers and other accessories. Utilizes creativity, initiative, judgment, leadership and wide range of engineering principles in the process.  Functions as lead engineer for product qualification process that requires testing, trouble shooting, creation of documentation (specifications, drawings and quality standards), validation of material safety compliance and necessary vendor product safety approvals.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Plan, conduct and evaluate overall performance on PFG prototypes and products.
2. Create project time schedules and status reports.
3. Communicate regularly with Product Managers, vendors and Engineering Manager.
4. Assist and instruct support functions for the successful completion of projects.
5. Establish reviews, check and revise specification write-ups, drawings, routers and specifications for new and existing products.
6. Create and maintain inspection drawings.
7. Create necessary files for test reports, safety approval certifications and material compliance reports.
8. Establish and revise bill of material as necessary.
9. Formulate new product ideas and analysis of new product proposals.
10. Oversees construction of working and visual models.
11. Conducts design review and production release meetings to ensure feasibility and production schedules.
12. Assists in the development of required fixtures and gauges.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical or Electrical)
• 3-5 years' work experience in product engineering or product support engineering of precision electro-mechanical products or machinery
• Broad knowledge of part design, engineering materials, manufacturing processes associated with plastics, metal stamping, motor and machining manufacturability
• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred
• Basic electrical knowledge and experience
• 3-D modeling and drafting experience is preferred (Siemens NX preferred)
• Creative problem-solving ability and high mechanical aptitude
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills; strong documentation and organization skills
• Ability to travel to overseas vendors as needed
