Product Support Engineer

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of Product Support Engineer at our North America manufacturing plant in Sterling, Illinois.

The Product Support Engineer is responsible for the provision of engineering assistance and improvement of the current range of products and manufacturing processes within the Trimmer Value Stream. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Tool Room, Marketing, Quality Control, New Product Development and Research and Development. The Product Support Engineer reports directly to the PVS Sr. Product Support Engineer. There are no direct reports to this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Tests new and existing products for strength, quality, function, performance, cost, ease of assembly and reliability, etc. Ensures product compliance with design and operation and communicates necessary changes to operators, QC, and management while working with numerous project deadlines.
• Analyzes, corrects and documents product defects and/or manufacturing and design defects. Ensures equipment or process changes do not adversely affect the operation of equipment or manufacturability of products.
• Works with Engineering and Quality to generate data for performance and quality specifications, builds prototypes and coordinates pre-pilot/pilot evaluations of new and modified products and corrects any deficiencies.
• Works with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Tool Room and outside vendors to develop/build or source required fixtures and gauges to properly support the product line, works with and trains manufacturing personnel and Engineering Lab Technician to ensure products are built and tested per performance specifications and properly evaluated.
• Specifies, maintains, and evaluates electrical and mechanical test equipment, and develops and evaluates new test procedures. Coordinates testing of products, development and evaluation of new test procedures, correction of product deficiencies, correction of manufacturing and design defects, correction of deficiencies of prototypes during pilot evaluations.
• Coordinates the training of personnel to ensure products are manufactured/tested per performance specifications and proper procedures are used during product evaluations. Informs management of statistical capabilities of products, status of projects and personnel issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate degree in Engineering required
• 3+ years' experience in design and manufacturing
• Excellent understanding of part design and manufacturing processes for plastic parts and stamped and machined metal parts
• 3D modeling/design experience required; experience in NX CAD system preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, analytical and multi-tasking skills
• Strong oral and written communication abilities
• Proven team skills and the ability to maintain internal and external relationships
• Ability to lead teams and effectively delegate responsibilities while maintaining project deadlines
