Product Designer

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of Product Designer at our headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.

This position is responsible for designing parts and assemblies and revising existing designs based on information provided from various Engineers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Utilizes the CAD system to design parts and assemblies from minimal information. The designs range from simple to complex. Incorporates their knowledge and understanding of the design process/manufacturing process/department functions/assembly techniques into the designing of parts and assemblies and in making revisions to existing drawings. Works with other departments and outside vendors on designing of parts.
• Troubleshoots complex problems on fixtures, testing equipment and finished products. Works with department supervision and operators to resolve design problems. Initiates changes, ECN's and completes implementation of changes.
• This position has knowledge of quality and part inspection methods. Measures and inspects parts using micrometers, calipers, comparators and other measuring equipment. Designs gauges to be used in the manufacturing process for part requirements. Determines complex part tolerances by performing tolerance stack-up and process knowledge.
• Constructs/builds complex parts in 3D and constructs/builds SLA models. Assists with model making, painting and part decorating.

• Utilizes CAD to design simple and complex parts and assemblies.
• Communicates with operations to resolve design problems.
• Focuses on quality at the source.
• Maintains knowledge of U.S. and foreign approval agency requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Associates degree in Design Technology or related preferred.
• 3-5+ years experienced with solid modeling required, experience with Unigraphics CAD system preferred.
• Must be skilled in design, 3D design and construction of parts/models and be able to troubleshoot design problems.
• Must be detail oriented, organized, and have strong communication skills.
• Ability to model the Wahl Way, including respect for every individual, assure quality at the source, and continuous improvement.
