Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our New Product Development Team.

The New Product Development (NPD) Engineering Manager is responsible for the successful creation and release of new products. This position ensures customer value through a strong partnership with Product Marketing to convert customer problems and desires into technical solutions and deliver them to market. This position also works to sustain a healthy pipeline of new Wahl products while ensuring product quality, profitability, and manufacturability. The NPD Engineering Manager promotes product patents and innovation to ensure Wahl remains the preferred brand in the market. This position reports directly to Director of North America NPD. The role has direct reports and provides oversight and leadership to the New Product Development Engineering staff for the successful launch of new products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serves as an essential part of NPD and provides key engineering leadership for the company by monitoring current engineering practices and collaborating with other cross functional departments to establish best practices and engineering standards.
  2. Provides oversight and leadership of new products during all development stage gate processes. Ensures safety and quality standards are met and helps to resolve any problems globally that impact products developed by this division.
  3. Works closely with engineering, marketing, and other cross functional team members to design new products with enhanced features and specifications. Aids in the development of market research concepts that can be converted into manufacturable, profitable, and exceptional quality products.
  4. Maintains customer value focus while adhering to Wahl core values and overall vision.
  5. Keeps fluent with Wahl sales, market share, product reviews and customer service feedback to evaluate product performance in comparison to competitor products.
  6. Provides leadership and career development through mentoring and coaching to empower staff to problem solve, ask critical questions, brainstorm, and review parallel concepts to seek the best technical solutions.
  7. Assigns projects to engineers with target parameters and provides oversight and approval of engineering documentation. Meets with staff to review concept development progress and engages team during product design evolution to ensure goals are met.
  8. Works in conjunction with sourcing, vendors, quality, and manufacturing to ensure materials meet cost and quality standards.
  9. Engages with outside engineering entities (consultants) for additional engineering support as needed and approved by the company leadership.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction as to the proper execution of the new product development processes
  2. Facilitates the Gate approval process to ensure that projects are maturing appropriately and meeting expectations before moving to the next stage.
  3. Work with Wahl Global Product Management and Engineering for shared component and resource opportunities.
  4. Work closely with all cross functional partners on company-wide initiatives and participates in meetings as requested
  5. Manage engineering staff including recruitment, training, development, and retention
  6. Approve specification write-ups, drawings, ECNs, and specifications for new products
  7. Accountable to ensure project teams are completing the deliverables within the NPD process and project scope requirements. Assist teams with stakeholder alignment, communication, and cross functional alignment of priorities.
  8. Act as the advocate for the NPD project teams and clear roadblocks to successful execution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
  • 10 years engineering experience related to product development with 5 years' experience in leading project teams.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing, quality control processes and process capabilities.
  • Senior level engineering experience to problem solve with creativity based on knowledge of a wide range of engineering principles where initiative and independent judgement skills are used to lead NPD initiatives.
  • Conceptual and innovative thinking to solve complex situations and develop new products
  • Ability to lead teams on immediate priorities to achieve goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with wide range of disciplines both internally and externally and convey technical information to people with diverse expertise and variety of skillsets.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence others, and handle disputes.
