Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer on our New Product Development Team at our Global Headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.

The Design Engineer supports new product development projects from conception through production. This position serves as the technical lead to perform the design processes of developing, analyzing, testing, and troubleshooting designs.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for maintaining and improving existing products for safety, performance, manufacturability, and assembly-ability. Tasks include identifying and solving problems on products, processes, and part design and manufacturing. Assignments are broad in scope and highly complex requiring creativity, initiative, judgment and leadership with a broad understanding of a wide range of engineering principles and manufacturing and assembly processes.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering. Reporting directly to this position are the Sr. Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Product Designers and Techs.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage and direct Blade Manufacturing Engineering Team.
  • Improve Engineering staff's capability, productivity and business effectiveness.
  • Oversee the design, specifications, development and manufacturability of our products through stable high-volume mass production.
  • Initiate and implement continual process improvement activities through Kaizen events and Lean Manufacturing designed to reduce cost, scrap & downtime and improve quality, productivity and profitability.
  • Investigate new technologies and processes to maintain cutting edge design solutions and drive innovations.
  • Work closely with New Product Development Team to help in design reviews and ensure a smooth transition from concept to manufacturing and full production.
  • Work closely with Quality and Operations on product and process changes to manufacturing.
  • Assist the Quality Department with FMEA's, Control Plans and Process Capabilities.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Assist with the purchase of equipment, tools, dies, fixtures, and materials to meet product quality and manufacturing capacity.
  • Ensures safety of manufacturing process, and safety and functioning of products.
  • Supports implementation of the Wahl Operating System specifically on the TQM, TPM and FPS pillars.
  • Set goals to the team and individuals which align with the company's overall strategic objectives and manage the execution of goals.
  • Prepares and submits reports to Management on progress and status of projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 7+ years of industry engineering experience, with at least 4+ years in technical staff management experience.
  • 3-D modeling/design experience required; experience in NX CAD system preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of part design and manufacturing processes for plastic parts, stamped and machined metal parts.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, analytical and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrate awareness and behaviors that reflect The Wahl Way values.
  • Proven team skills and ability to maintain internal and external relationships.
