Engineering Lab Technician

Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for an entry level Engineering Lab Technician to join our New Product Development team at our Global Headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.

The Lab Technician performs a variety of basic electrical and mechanical tests on products and components to determine performance, reliability, and safety. Assists plant personnel when problems arise with products, fixtures, gages, and testing equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• The Lab Technician is responsible for running accurate tests, which are requested by the Engineers, to evaluate and test new product designs and design changes on existing products
• The Lab Technician is responsible for troubleshooting basic problems with assembly fixtures, testing equipment and finished products. The position works with department foreman and operators to resolve problems as they arise.

• The Lab Technician tests and evaluates finished products from current and new vendors and competitors. This position evaluates products for design, performance, safety, and appearance requirements.

• The Lab Technician is responsible for generating an accurate and detailed report regarding the test method, results and technician's conclusions and recommendations whenever any testing, evaluation, or troubleshooting is performed.

• The Lab Technician builds prototypes of component at the request of Engineer based on engineering drawings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess good mechanical, communication (written and oral) and organization skills, as well as the ability to read and follow test procedures.
• Should be able to work well with others and maintain a constructive work environment with minimum supervision.
• Good problem solving and analytical abilities
• An Associate's degree in Electronics or Engineering Technology preferred but not required.
• Candidates who do not hold an AAS in Electronics must pursue classes in electronics at the college level, to gain basic knowledge of electronic principal, theories, testing procedures and the ability to run general lab equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies).
• Must be able to perform non-strenuous light physical activity
