The Director of Human Resources reports to the VP of North America and will have direct accountability for all areas of Human Resources for Sterling operations, including organizational development, leadership coaching, employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, and environmental, health & safety.

The HR Business Partner, HR Generalist and HR Administrator report directly into this position. The Staffing and Training Manager, Compensation Specialist, Benefits Manager, Benefits Administrator, Talent Acquisition Specialist(s), and Occupational Health Administrator have dotted line reporting into this position. This role partners closely with the Director of Human Resources – Global.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead, coach, develop and motivate to ensure a talented, service-driven and resourceful HR team that sets the tone for organizational values and culture.
  • Develop and implement processes / programs, related to employee communications, performance management, employee relations, compensation, employee engagement & retention, worker's compensation, and health & safety.
  • Strategic Thought Partner with the VP and functional leaders to develop business and organizational strategies; leverage knowledge of the business to develop programs to help drive a high performing organization.
  • Credible coach and advisor to the leaders, as well as a strong employee advocate.
  • Provide guidance to leadership on talent development and succession planning to ensure the right talent capabilities and bench strength are developed to support the business long term
  • Analyze training needs based on long term objectives and implement the training and development agenda; work in collaboration with managers to identify areas of opportunities
  • Provide effective and consistent communication at all levels in the organization to build and maintain employee engagement and collaborative working relationships
  • Model the Company's values of respect for people and family, integrity, lead with humility, continuous improvement, and enterprise alignment. Demonstrate the highest ethical standards. Set the expectation and hold the organization accountable for the same commitments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business or related field required
  • Minimum of 10 years HR experience with minimum 5 years leading an HR team
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment required
  • Must be familiar with FMLA, ADA, ERISA, HIPAA, AAP, and be willing to stay abreast of the ever changing laws and regulations in Employment Law
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high performing teams
  • Experience in creating and executing talent development and succession planning strategies
  • Experience in implementing an employee empowered work environment
  • Experience in compensation and implementing incentive plans preferred
  • Ability to take complex information and present it in a simple, visual format
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to lead with humility and with a respect for individuals
  • Takes a continuous improvement approach with constancy of purpose to achieve results
  • Willingness to adapt style to meet the needs of the business
