Customs Compliance Specialist

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Item Classification and Country of Origin Determination
    • Classify products and materials according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule 
    • Determine and maintain Country of Origin
  • Manage Customs Clearance Process
    • Support customs clearance of shipments
    • Provide required information for import and export documentation in accordance with customer regulations, laws, and/or procedures
    • Respond to US customs requests for information
  • Audit Customs Clearance
    • Audit commercial documents, applying proper harmonized tariff schedule for accurate duty assessment to ensure proper government importing requirements are met
    • Audit entry packets
    • Audit supplier compliance with customs regulations (Country of Origin Assignment and marking)
  • Training
    • Provide training on import and export compliance topics
    • Train import suppliers and documentation requirements
  • Support
    • Provide duty rates on goods to be imported based on tariff classification
    • Partner to internal departments and external partners
  • Support Free Trade Agreements processes and procedures
    • Research and communicate free trade agreement information to obtain duty savings
    • Support of renewal of Free trade agreements yearly and as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience. (In lieu of a degree, an additional 3 years of experience is acceptable)
    • 2+ years of experience in Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) assignment OR
    • 2+ years of experience working customs operations, including classification, valuation, and Free Trade Agreements
  • Knowledge of US Customs regulations and HTSUS classification
  • Knowledge of international shipping documentation, customs clearance, and freight forwarding
  • Strong attention to details and proficient record-keeping and database maintenance skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply information
  • International Supply Chain experience preferred
  • US Customs Brokers License preferred or obtainment within 18 months
  • Ability to model the Company's values of respect for people, teamwork and continuous improvement
