Communications Intern Summer 2021

The Communications Intern will help to develop internal communications strategies and execute communication activities to advance the company's business goals and corporate culture. This position will ensure our employees feel connected to what is happening in the company and the important role they play in shaping our success.

MUST be able to commute to and from Sterling, IL to work on-site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Engage, inform, and direct employees about business priorities.
  • Develop and drive proactive communications plans and campaigns around our purpose, values, vision, and leadership principles.
  • Assess current channels of communications and develop a concise plan for efficiency.
  • Identify and prioritize what needs to be communicated to employees.
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Set standards for company-wide communications, both written and visual, to ensure their value.
  • Lead and support, as appropriate, the development and implementation of company-wide internal communication activities aligned to our business strategy and culture.
  • Create and execute robust yearly internal communications calendar of activities and announcements.
  • Support communication around D365, our new ERP system.
  • Partnering with our Manufacturing teams to launch zone-wide initiatives and assist with issue management.
  • Measuring the effectiveness of our employee communications program and exploring new channels/formats to engage with employees.
  • Assist with getting creative communications from conception through publication.
  • Participate in the Young Professionals Group.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent
  • Identify and prioritize what needs to be communicated to employees.
  • Plan, edit, and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums.
  • Produce high-quality written and visual content (video messages, newsletters, posters, PowerPoint presentations, intranet articles, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Assist with getting creative communications from conception through publication
  • Lead the execution of organizational announcements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current undergraduate, Junior/Senior level preferred or recently graduated
  • Pursuing a degree or has a strong demonstrated passion for Communications, Business, Visual Arts, Design, Film, Marketing, HR, Management, or similar; English also considered
  • Flexibility and openness to work on a variety of assignments
  • Strong visual arts and design background with portfolio
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Planner)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro)
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving skills, ability to learn concepts quickly
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills 

  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to relationship management 

  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and layout skills
  • Confident communicator who can work with all levels of management
  • Ability to deliver results quickly while working in a dynamic team environment
  • Additional proficiencies a plus:
    • Google Analytics
    • Vimeo
